When the iPhone X, 8, and 8 Plus came out last year, I made a prediction about what would happen this year and after. This isn’t a strong claim and there’s not any particular support for it from other information. It’s just my idea of what Apple might do. I thought I should post it now that I have my blog back up to speed and the actual announcement is coming shortly. I know some new marketing names have already “leaked.” I’m only vaguely aware of what they are.
Last year I predicted that Apple would have a new, updated version of the iPhone X this year. There would also be an iPhone 9 and 9 Plus. The nine’s might be updated versions of the iPhone 8 series but might also be off shoots or modifications of the iPhone X.
After 2018, my idea is that there would only be variations of something called “iPhone X” and only that name would be used for the future, at least the near future. There might be various suffixes or annotations to indicate variations in performance and price. There could be an iPhone X Pro, etc. So now we have the “MacBook.” It makes sense to me that there would just be the “iPhone X.”
Yeah, I know it would be even more consistent if they simply called it the “iPhone.” It could happen.
I won’t be surprised if I’m totally wrong. We’ll see what happens on 12 September.
